Late Fall in the Hamptons: Things to Do Before Winter

The summer crowds are gone, the ocean is still putting on a show, and the whole East End slows down to a pace you can actually enjoy. If you're wondering what to do in the Hamptons in November, this guide covers it all: a week of prix fixe dinners, rare films in Sag Harbor, dog-friendly beach walks and the lighthouse lighting in Montauk. And because Hamptons Vacation Inn sits in Hampton Bays, at the western edge of the Hamptons, the whole South Fork is an easy drive from your room.

Eat Well During Long Island Restaurant Week (Nov. 1–8)

Long Island Restaurant Week runs Sunday, Nov. 1, through Sunday, Nov. 8, 2026, and it's celebrating its 20th year. Participating restaurants offer a $25 two-course lunch and three-course prix fixe dinners at $30, $40 or $48. Each restaurant chooses which menus to offer, and on Saturdays the deal runs until 7 p.m., so book early for the weekend.

Browse the participating Suffolk County restaurants on the official Long Island Restaurant Week site. Want more ideas for after the promotion ends? See our guide to the best restaurants open off-season in the Hamptons.

Catch a Classic at the Sag Harbor Cinema Festival of Preservation (Nov. 6–9)

Movie lovers, this one's for you. The sixth annual Martin Scorsese Presents: The Sag Harbor Cinema Festival of Preservation brings restored classics and rediscovered rarities back to the big screen at 90 Main Street in Sag Harbor. This year's lineup includes Brian De Palma's Obsession, Powell and Pressburger's Gone to Earth, Roger Corman's The Masque of the Red Death and Auntie Mame, many with special introductions from archivists and filmmakers.

Tickets and all-access passes are on the Sag Harbor Cinema website. Make a night of it with dinner on Main Street afterward.

Walk the Beach With Your Dog

Here's one of the best perks of late fall: from October 1 through April 1, dogs are allowed at Town of Southampton beaches, including Ponquogue Beach right here in Hampton Bays. Dogs must be leashed and under your supervision, and you'll need to clean up after them and stay clear of any fenced-off nesting areas. Check the Town of Southampton's rules for dogs on beaches and parks before you go.

Visit the Montauk Lighthouse Before It Closes for the Season

Through Nov. 22, the Montauk Point Lighthouse is open Fridays through Sundays, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Climb the tower (kids must be at least 41 inches tall), tour the museum and take in the view where the Atlantic meets Block Island Sound. While you're at Montauk Point State Park, scan the rocks offshore: seals like to haul out and sun themselves there in the colder months.

On Saturday, Nov. 28, the annual Lighting of the Lighthouse kicks off the holiday season in Montauk. Hours can change with the weather, so check montauklighthouse.com before you head out.

Last Call for Farm Stands and Pumpkins

If you're here the first weekend of the month, Hank's Pumpkintown in Water Mill runs through Sunday, Nov. 1. After that, many East End farm stands stay open into late fall with apples, cider, squash and fresh pies. Hours get shorter as the season winds down, so call ahead.

Sip the Season Without the Crowds

Late fall is a lovely time for wine tasting on the East End. Tasting rooms are calmer, and you can actually talk with the people pouring. For our favorite stops, read The Ultimate Hamptons Fall Wine Tasting & Harvest Guide, and for more on why the shoulder season is worth it, see The Secret Season.
